Day 95

Good evening,

Calendar: Today’s calendar was led by Izyan. Great job Izyan!

Phonics: Today, students reviewed the “ee” sound, letter, and song. Students completed an activity to practice building words that contain the “ee” sound.

French: Please see Mlle Jessica’s blog for more information.

Journals: Today, students created acrostic poems using their names. Students had to think of a word starting with each letter in their name, that described them or an activity that they enjoy. Students demonstrated a lot of creativity in their writing!

Lunch/ Recess 1

Math: Today, students practiced telling time. Students completed an activity that involved reading and recording the time on an analog clock, as well as drawing the hands of the clock to display a certain time.

Unit of Inquiry: Today, students learned about the veterinarian as another important community helper. Students watched a video called “This is Daniel Cook with a Veterinarian” and discussed what tools a veterinarian uses to take care of animals.

Pack Up: Students participated in centers that allowed them to practice both literacy and numeracy skills in a variety of ways.

Taking Action

Action is a very significant aspect of the IB learning process. In the PYP Program, students will engage in 6 Unit of Inquiries (UOI) throughout the school year, with each unit being approximately 6 weeks long. During each UOI, 3 students from the class will be assigned as the “Action Stars”, which means that they are encouraged to use what has been learned and apply it to the “real world.” The purpose of this initiative is to help further knowledge about what has been learned within the classroom. Example: If we are learning about recycling, students might go home and tell you that they want to implement a recycling program with you at home, or they may do something simple like telling you that something you were throwing in the garbage may be recycled. Students who are not assigned this role for the current UOI being taught are still encouraged to show ACTION! Action comes in many forms; it might be something small to something very large, but as long as the children understand the concepts, action is important no matter the size!
