Good evening,

Calendar: Today’s calendar was led by Armaan. Great job Armaan!

Phonics: Today, students reviewed the “ie” sound, letter, and song. Then Sianna, Zayn, and Bryana completed their Show and Share. Thank you for bringing in an item with your assigned sound!

Journals: Today, students completed journal entries about their favourite season. Students are practicing explaining their reasoning by describing why it is their favourite season.

Lunch/ Recess 1

Math: Today, students wrote their addition and subtraction math test. Students were able to use a variety of addition and subtraction strategies to complete the test. Students also practiced how to effectively write a test by maintaining a quiet environment, raising their hand to ask for clarification, and time management skills. Well done Senior Kindergarten students!

Taking Action

Action is a very significant aspect of the IB learning process. In the PYP Program, students will engage in 6 Unit of Inquiries (UOI) throughout the school year, with each unit being approximately 6 weeks long. During each UOI, 3 students from the class will be assigned as the “Action Stars”, which means that they are encouraged to use what has been learned and apply it to the “real world.” The purpose of this initiative is to help further knowledge about what has been learned within the classroom. Example: If we are learning about recycling, students might go home and tell you that they want to implement a recycling program with you at home, or they may do something simple like telling you that something you were throwing in the garbage may be recycled. Students who are not assigned this role for the current UOI being taught are still encouraged to show ACTION! Action comes in many forms; it might be something small to something very large, but as long as the children understand the concepts, action is important no matter the size!
