Phonics: Today, students reviewed the “Z/z” and “W/w” sounds, letters, and songs. Then Izyan, Zane, Diyya, Ronan, and Jack completed their Show and Share. Thank you for bringing in an item with your assigned sound!

Lunch/ Recess 1

Math: Today, students reviewed telling time on both an analog and digital clock. Students practiced connecting two different types of clocks that show the same time. Students are also recalling that we write “3:00” or “3:30” even though the minute hand is pointing to the 12 and the 6. Students were correcting their work when they wrote “3:12” or “3:6” instead. A review package has been sent home to practice for the upcoming test on February 23^rd.

Unit of Inquiry: Today, students read a book called “Papa, Please Get the Moon for Me.” Students enjoyed pretending to be astronauts and taking a trip to the moon. Students then used Oreo cookies to demonstrate the Four Phases of the Moon. Great work astronomers!!

Taking Action

Action is a very significant aspect of the IB learning process. In the PYP Program, students will engage in 6 Unit of Inquiries (UOI) throughout the school year, with each unit being approximately 6 weeks long. During each UOI, 3 students from the class will be assigned as the “Action Stars”, which means that they are encouraged to use what has been learned and apply it to the “real world.” The purpose of this initiative is to help further knowledge about what has been learned within the classroom. Example: If we are learning about recycling, students might go home and tell you that they want to implement a recycling program with you at home, or they may do something simple like telling you that something you were throwing in the garbage may be recycled. Students who are not assigned this role for the current UOI being taught are still encouraged to show ACTION! Action comes in many forms; it might be something small to something very large, but as long as the children understand the concepts, action is important no matter the size!
