Phonics: Today, students were introduced to the “ee” sound, letter, and song. Students watched a video called “Geraldine learns the /ee/ sound.” After this, students brainstormed several words that contain the “ee” sound.

Lunch/ Recess 1

Math: Today, students began a new unit of math. Students are learning how to tell time on both an analog and a digital clock. Today, students practiced telling time to the hour (1 o’clock, 2 o’clock…).

Poem Presentations: Today, students presented their poem to the class. Students demonstrated a lot of confidence and were well-prepared for their presentations. Congratulations to Ronan and Armaan who have been selected as the finalists who will represent our class in the school-wide competition on Friday, February 9^th!!

Taking Action

Action is a very significant aspect of the IB learning process. In the PYP Program, students will engage in 6 Unit of Inquiries (UOI) throughout the school year, with each unit being approximately 6 weeks long. During each UOI, 3 students from the class will be assigned as the “Action Stars”, which means that they are encouraged to use what has been learned and apply it to the “real world.” The purpose of this initiative is to help further knowledge about what has been learned within the classroom. Example: If we are learning about recycling, students might go home and tell you that they want to implement a recycling program with you at home, or they may do something simple like telling you that something you were throwing in the garbage may be recycled. Students who are not assigned this role for the current UOI being taught are still encouraged to show ACTION! Action comes in many forms; it might be something small to something very large, but as long as the children understand the concepts, action is important no matter the size!
