Good evening,

Calendar: Today’s calendar was led by Neel. Great job Neel!

Phonics: Today, students reviewed the “ue” sound, letters, and song. Then Zayn, Mateo, Bryana, and Krish completed their Show and Share. Thank you for bringing in an item with your assigned sound!

Arts Night Rehearsal: Today, students rehearsed the finale song for their Arts Night Performance. Students are looking forward to an exciting time next week sharing their artwork and musical performance.

Lunch/ Recess 1

Spelling Bee: Students did a wonderful job today in the Spelling Bee! Through four rounds and 16 words, we were able to declare two finalists for the SJA Spelling Bee next Tuesday. Congratulations to Zayn and Armaan who will represent our SK class next week!

Arts Night Rehearsal: Today, students rehearsed their song “It’s a Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood.” Students are encouraged to bring in any props that they need in order to practice the actions during our song.

Art: Students completed a special Mother’s Day surprise to share with their Mom on the weekend. Happy Mother’s Day!!

Taking Action

Action is a very significant aspect of the IB learning process. In the PYP Program, students will engage in 6 Unit of Inquiries (UOI) throughout the school year, with each unit being approximately 6 weeks long. During each UOI, 3 students from the class will be assigned as the “Action Stars”, which means that they are encouraged to use what has been learned and apply it to the “real world.” The purpose of this initiative is to help further knowledge about what has been learned within the classroom. Example: If we are learning about recycling, students might go home and tell you that they want to implement a recycling program with you at home, or they may do something simple like telling you that something you were throwing in the garbage may be recycled. Students who are not assigned this role for the current UOI being taught are still encouraged to show ACTION! Action comes in many forms; it might be something small to something very large, but as long as the children understand the concepts, action is important no matter the size!
