Good evening,

Calendar: Today’s calendar was led by Diyya. Great job Diyya!

Phonics: Today, the students reviewed the Long “A/a” sound, action and song. Students completed an activity to practice identifying and writing words with the Long “A/a” sound.

French: Please see Mlle. Jessica’s blog for more information.

Journals: Today students practiced their spelling words for Friday.

Lunch/ Recess 1

Math: Today students practiced creating surveys and recording the names of the participants. They are also practicing answering questions about their results. For example: How many students answered yes? How many students answered no?

Science: Today students completed their second trial for the Science Fair project. Students practiced flying paper airplanes while sitting on the ground. They are determining which height allows the planes to fly the greatest distance.

Taking Action

Action is a very significant aspect of the IB learning process. In the PYP Program, students will engage in 6 Unit of Inquiries (UOI) throughout the school year, with each unit being approximately 6 weeks long. During each UOI, 3 students from the class will be assigned as the “Action Stars”, which means that they are encouraged to use what has been learned and apply it to the “real world.” The purpose of this initiative is to help further knowledge about what has been learned within the classroom. Example: If we are learning about recycling, students might go home and tell you that they want to implement a recycling program with you at home, or they may do something simple like telling you that something you were throwing in the garbage may be recycled. Students who are not assigned this role for the current UOI being taught are still encouraged to show ACTION! Action comes in many forms; it might be something small to something very large, but as long as the children understand the concepts, action is important no matter the size!
