Calendar: Today’s calendar was led by Jack. Great job Jack!

Phonics: Today,
students were introduced to the “ai” sound, letters, and song. Students watched
a video called “Geraldine learns the /ai/ sound.” After this, students brainstormed
a list of words with that contain the “ai” sound.

Journals: Today, students wrote
journal entries about a community helper that they would like to be when they
grow up. Students used words and pictures to communicate their ideas.
Fire Alarm: Today, we experienced an unexpected fire alarm in the
building. As a staff, we were able to evacuate the students
safely and in a timely fashion from the building. Please be aware that we do
not conduct fire drills and evacuations during the winter months. We responded
to this situation according to our emergency protocol. Students were outside
for ten minutes waiting in line while we followed proper protocol to ensure
every child was accounted for. At this time, we then made our way over to
Meadowvale rinks to have shelter from the cold. Once the fire department
gave the go ahead we returned back to the building. If you have any questions
or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact myself or Ms. Smith.
Lunch/ Recess 1
Math: Today, students started
learning about subtraction. Students were introduced to subtraction signs and
sentences. Students are learning to recognize how many are left, when a number
of objects are taken away. Students practiced the "Cross-out" Method as a strategy for doing subtraction.
Assembly: Today students had an
assembly to prepare for the Jump Rope for Heart event that is taking place on
February 20, 2018. Students are encouraged to collect donations for the Heart
and Stroke Foundation leading up to this date.
