Day 38

Happy Halloween!!

Today has been a very exciting day at St. Jude’s Academy! We had a lot of special activities that took place. We also discussed some safety tips for trick-or-treating in our class. Have a wonderful evening! Please also note that all homework is due next Monday to accommodate this week’s festivities.

Assembly: We had a costume competition this morning in the auditorium. We also had a guest appearance from both Elsa and Moana. Congratulations to Doctor Shepherd (Zane) on being a costume finalist!

Calendar: Today’s calendar was led by Ahaan. Great job Ahaan!

French: Please see Mlle. Jessica’s blog for more information.

Show and Share: The students all had the opportunity to share about the costume that they wore today. They also shared their favourite Halloween treat with the class.

Phonics: Today students reviewed the “G/g” sound, actions, and songs. Students completed a worksheet to practice identifying the “G/g” sound in different words, and to practice their writing. Afterwards, students decoded a secret message before the pumpkin was completely carved.

Lunch/ Recess 1

Math: Students reviewed the pattern terminology that we have been using such as the pattern core, attributes, and how to name patterns using letters. Today, students recognized patterns in a Halloween Tic-Tac-Toe Game. Thank you to Jack for bringing in this fun activity!

Unit of Inquiry: Today, we read a book called the Runaway Pumpkin. This story was also a great example of the concept of Farm-to-Table. Students also participated in a Halloween Mystery Bag Activity. Using just their sense of touch, students had to identify what was in the Halloween Mystery Bag.

Lunch/ Recess 2

Gym: Please see Mrs. Jan’s blog for more information.

Halloween Dance: The students were in constant motion, making it difficult to pause even for a photo! There was lots of energy and enthusiasm at the Halloween Dance.
