Day 155

Good evening,

Calendar: Today’s calendar was led by Diyya. Great job Diyya!

Journal: Today, students practiced writing more than one sentence in their journals. Students used the prompt: “My favourite feeling is _____ because __________ . I feel _____ when __________ .” Students did a great job discussing feelings and different things that cause them to have a certain feeling.

French: Please see Mlle Jessica’s blog for more information.

Phonics: Today, students reviewed the “Ar/ar” sound, letters, and song. Students chose some of their favourite Jolly Phoncis tunes to review some of the sounds and blends we have been learning about this term.

Lunch/ Recess 1

Math: Today, students reviewed some of the 2D shapes and their characteristics. Students practiced recording how many of each shape could be found in a picture. After this, students used scissors and glue to construct their own picture using a variety of shapes including squares, rectangles, triangles, and circles.

Unit of Inquiry: Today students viewed part of the movie “Inside Out.” Students immediately recognized some of the feelings and emotions including Joy, Sadness, Anger, Digust, and Fear. Students also talked about how we can experience multiple feelings at the same time, and how our feelings can also impact those around us.

Taking Action

Action is a very significant aspect of the IB learning process. In the PYP Program, students will engage in 6 Unit of Inquiries (UOI) throughout the school year, with each unit being approximately 6 weeks long. During each UOI, 3 students from the class will be assigned as the “Action Stars”, which means that they are encouraged to use what has been learned and apply it to the “real world.” The purpose of this initiative is to help further knowledge about what has been learned within the classroom. Example: If we are learning about recycling, students might go home and tell you that they want to implement a recycling program with you at home, or they may do something simple like telling you that something you were throwing in the garbage may be recycled. Students who are not assigned this role for the current UOI being taught are still encouraged to show ACTION! Action comes in many forms; it might be something small to something very large, but as long as the children understand the concepts, action is important no matter the size!
