Phonics: Today, students reviewed the “ue” sound, letters, and song. Students completed an activity to practice identifying and printing words that contain the “ue” sound.

Lunch/ Recess 1

Spelling: Today, students practiced the format of the Spelling Bee. Students are gaining confidence in spelling words aloud. Students are encouraged to continue to practice the spelling list in preparation for our class Spelling Bee on Friday May 11.

Arts Night Rehearsal: Today, students rehearsed their song “It’s a Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood.” Students are encouraged to bring in any props that they need in order to practice the actions during our song.

Math: Today, students reviewed weight and practiced identifying which objects were heavier or lighter. Students also practiced measuring length and putting objects in order from shortest to longest Students are preparing for their test on Thursday May 10.

Lunch/ Recess 2

Shakespeare Play (Modified): Today, students saw a Dr. Seuss adaption of Romeo and Juliet. Students enjoyed the performance put on by the MYP students.

Taking Action

Action is a very significant aspect of the IB learning process. In the PYP Program, students will engage in 6 Unit of Inquiries (UOI) throughout the school year, with each unit being approximately 6 weeks long. During each UOI, 3 students from the class will be assigned as the “Action Stars”, which means that they are encouraged to use what has been learned and apply it to the “real world.” The purpose of this initiative is to help further knowledge about what has been learned within the classroom. Example: If we are learning about recycling, students might go home and tell you that they want to implement a recycling program with you at home, or they may do something simple like telling you that something you were throwing in the garbage may be recycled. Students who are not assigned this role for the current UOI being taught are still encouraged to show ACTION! Action comes in many forms; it might be something small to something very large, but as long as the children understand the concepts, action is important no matter the size!
