Phonics: Today, students reviewed the “oa” sound, letter, and song. Then Veer, Ahaan, and Eric completed their Show and Share. Thank you for bringing an item with your assigned sound!

Lunch/ Recess 1

Spelling Test: Students did an excellent job recording their spelling words in our test format. If students were unsure about a word, they used strategies such as sounding it out, or coming back to that word at the end. Well done everyone!

Reading Buddies: Today, students practiced reading their poem to their Reading Buddy. Students were also audience members as their Reading Buddy practiced their speech. Students gave and received feedback to ensure they give an effective presentation.

Math: Today, students practiced using a number line to complete addition and subtraction sentences. Students are working on counting forwards and backwards to complete their number sentences. Review has been sent home for the test on Friday, February 2^nd.

Taking Action

Action is a very significant aspect of the IB learning process. In the PYP Program, students will engage in 6 Unit of Inquiries (UOI) throughout the school year, with each unit being approximately 6 weeks long. During each UOI, 3 students from the class will be assigned as the “Action Stars”, which means that they are encouraged to use what has been learned and apply it to the “real world.” The purpose of this initiative is to help further knowledge about what has been learned within the classroom. Example: If we are learning about recycling, students might go home and tell you that they want to implement a recycling program with you at home, or they may do something simple like telling you that something you were throwing in the garbage may be recycled. Students who are not assigned this role for the current UOI being taught are still encouraged to show ACTION! Action comes in many forms; it might be something small to something very large, but as long as the children understand the concepts, action is important no matter the size!
