Day 83

Good evening,

Calendar: Today’s calendar was led by Ronan. Great job Ronan!

Phonics: Today, students reviewed the “ai” and “J/j” sounds, letters, and songs. Then Izyan, Veda, Zane, and Ronan completed their Show and Share. Thank you for bringing in an item with your assigned sound.

French: Please see Mlle Jessica’s blog for more information.

Writing: Today, students completed an activity that involved writing about their family. Students used words and pictures to communicate their ideas.

Lunch/ Recess 1

Math: Today, students practiced different strategies for subtraction. Students completed an activity that involved deciding whether they needed to use addition or subtraction to complete a number sentence. Students received addition review for the upcoming test. They will receive subtraction review next week.

Unit of Inquiry: Today, students watched a video called “Daniel Cook Visits the Doctor.” Students identified the tools that a doctor used including a needle, a tongue depressor, a thermometer, and a stethoscope.

Taking Action

Action is a very significant aspect of the IB learning process. In the PYP Program, students will engage in 6 Unit of Inquiries (UOI) throughout the school year, with each unit being approximately 6 weeks long. During each UOI, 3 students from the class will be assigned as the “Action Stars”, which means that they are encouraged to use what has been learned and apply it to the “real world.” The purpose of this initiative is to help further knowledge about what has been learned within the classroom. Example: If we are learning about recycling, students might go home and tell you that they want to implement a recycling program with you at home, or they may do something simple like telling you that something you were throwing in the garbage may be recycled. Students who are not assigned this role for the current UOI being taught are still encouraged to show ACTION! Action comes in many forms; it might be something small to something very large, but as long as the children understand the concepts, action is important no matter the size!
