Day 55

Good evening,

Calendar: Today’s calendar was led by Eric. Great job Eric!

Phonics: Today, the students reviewed the Long “A/a” and Short “A/a” sounds, actions and songs. Then Krish, Neel, Armaan, and Jack presented their Show and Share to the class. Thank you for bringing in an item with your assigned sound!

French: Please see Mlle. Jessica’s blog for more information.

Writing: Today students completed their November Spelling Test. Students are practicing writing down the sounds they hear when the spelling words are read aloud.

Lunch/ Recess 1

Math: Today students learned about the probability of different events. For example, they talked about things that always happen, sometimes happen, or never happen. They completed an activity that involved recording event at school and determining whether these events always happen, sometimes happen, or never happen.

Unit of Inquiry: Today, students completed the written portion of their Summative Project. These have been sent home in agendas so that students can practice their presentations for Monday, December 4^th.

Taking Action

Action is a very significant aspect of the IB learning process. In the PYP Program, students will engage in 6 Unit of Inquiries (UOI) throughout the school year, with each unit being approximately 6 weeks long. During each UOI, 3 students from the class will be assigned as the “Action Stars”, which means that they are encouraged to use what has been learned and apply it to the “real world.” The purpose of this initiative is to help further knowledge about what has been learned within the classroom. Example: If we are learning about recycling, students might go home and tell you that they want to implement a recycling program with you at home, or they may do something simple like telling you that something you were throwing in the garbage may be recycled. Students who are not assigned this role for the current UOI being taught are still encouraged to show ACTION! Action comes in many forms; it might be something small to something very large, but as long as the children understand the concepts, action is important no matter the size!
