Day 106

Phonics: Today, students reviewed the “ng” sound, letters, and song. Then Ahaan and Mateo completed their Show and Share. Thank you for bringing in an item with your assigned sound!

Lunch/ Recess 1

Math: Today, students completed their Math Test about Telling Time. Students did a great job creating a positive working environment, and doing their best. Students also practiced looking over their work, and pacing themselves to complete the test without rushing, while also remaining focused. Next week, students will be learning about Place Value.

Unit of Inquiry: Today, students created astronaut portraits of themselves. Students decorated spacesuits, and used paper plates to create space helmets. The projects were out of this world!

Good evening,

ANTI-BULLYING (PINK DAY)

Cinderfella Play: Today, students enjoyed participating in an interactive play called “Cinderfella.” Students enjoyed this performance and discussed the importance of being kind to each other.

Phonics: Today, students reviewed the “ng” sound, letters, and song. Students created sentences using words that contain the “ng” sound.

Lunch/ Recess 1

Math: Today, students reviewed telling time on both an analog and digital clock. Today, students worked in teams to practice recording the digital time when shown an analog clock and drawing the hands on a clock when given the digital time. Students will be writing the math test tomorrow.

IB Learner Profiles: Today, students discussed peace, and how it can be achieved in our classroom and in our communities. We discussed why we are wearing pink today, and we put a Peace Lily in our classroom to remind us of the importance of helping to create peace each and every day. Students also reviewed the message from the Cinderfella play:

Phonics: Today, students reviewed the “ng” sound, letters, and song. Students completed an activity to practice identifying and printing words that contain the “ng” sound.

Lunch/ Recess 1

Unit of Inquiry: Today, students conducted an investigation into stars. Students recited the poem “Star Light, Star Bright.” After this, students wrote about their own wish. Students also created a diagram of the Big Dipper.

Math: Today, students reviewed telling time on both an analog and digital clock. Students are also recalling that we write “3:00” or “3:30” even though the minute hand is pointing to the 12 and the 6. Today, students worked in teams to practice recording the digital time when shown an analog clock. Please continue to work through the review package that has been sent home to practice for the upcoming test on February 23^rd.

Taking Action

Action is a very significant aspect of the IB learning process. In the PYP Program, students will engage in 6 Unit of Inquiries (UOI) throughout the school year, with each unit being approximately 6 weeks long. During each UOI, 3 students from the class will be assigned as the “Action Stars”, which means that they are encouraged to use what has been learned and apply it to the “real world.” The purpose of this initiative is to help further knowledge about what has been learned within the classroom. Example: If we are learning about recycling, students might go home and tell you that they want to implement a recycling program with you at home, or they may do something simple like telling you that something you were throwing in the garbage may be recycled. Students who are not assigned this role for the current UOI being taught are still encouraged to show ACTION! Action comes in many forms; it might be something small to something very large, but as long as the children understand the concepts, action is important no matter the size!
