Day 164

Good evening,

Chinguacousy Park Field Trip: Although the weather was colder than we anticipated for June, our class had a lot of fun on our field trip! Thank you to our volunteers who joined us today!! We enjoyed petting the goats, seeing a variety of animals, planting seeds, playing on the play structure, and spending time talking and laughing with friends during lunch, snack, and the bus ride.

Taking Action

Action is a very significant aspect of the IB learning process. In the PYP Program, students will engage in 6 Unit of Inquiries (UOI) throughout the school year, with each unit being approximately 6 weeks long. During each UOI, 3 students from the class will be assigned as the “Action Stars”, which means that they are encouraged to use what has been learned and apply it to the “real world.” The purpose of this initiative is to help further knowledge about what has been learned within the classroom. Example: If we are learning about recycling, students might go home and tell you that they want to implement a recycling program with you at home, or they may do something simple like telling you that something you were throwing in the garbage may be recycled. Students who are not assigned this role for the current UOI being taught are still encouraged to show ACTION! Action comes in many forms; it might be something small to something very large, but as long as the children understand the concepts, action is important no matter the size!
