Day 165

Good evening,

Track and Field Awards: Today, students received medals for 1^st, 2^nd, and 3^rd place for each Track and Field event. Congratulations to Zane, Ronan, Eric, and Mateo who did a great job in their events!

Calendar: Today’s calendar was led by Neel. Great job Neel!

Journal: Today, students wrote a journal entry with the sentence starter “My favourite part of SK is _____ because __________ .” Some students also volunteered to read their writing to the class.

Lunch/ Recess 1

Math: Students are reviewing key concepts for their Geometry Test on Friday. Today, students practiced identifying and sorting 2D and 3D shapes. Students completed a cut and paste activity to sort shapes as either a 2D or a 3D shape.

Unit of Inquiry: Today students completed an activity to identify some of the signs of summer. This included more sunshine, warmer temperatures, holidays, and flowers and birds.

Taking Action

Action is a very significant aspect of the IB learning process. In the PYP Program, students will engage in 6 Unit of Inquiries (UOI) throughout the school year, with each unit being approximately 6 weeks long. During each UOI, 3 students from the class will be assigned as the “Action Stars”, which means that they are encouraged to use what has been learned and apply it to the “real world.” The purpose of this initiative is to help further knowledge about what has been learned within the classroom. Example: If we are learning about recycling, students might go home and tell you that they want to implement a recycling program with you at home, or they may do something simple like telling you that something you were throwing in the garbage may be recycled. Students who are not assigned this role for the current UOI being taught are still encouraged to show ACTION! Action comes in many forms; it might be something small to something very large, but as long as the children understand the concepts, action is important no matter the size!
