Day 128

Good evening,

Calendar: Today’s calendar was led by Sianna. Great job Sianna!

Phonics: Today, students reviewed the “Th/th” sound, letters, and song. Students practiced identifying words that contain the “Th/th” sound.

French: Please see Mlle Jessica’s blog for more information.

Journal: Today, students wrote journal entries with the sentence starter “In the Spring I…” Students wrote about some of their favourite spring activities including growing plants and puddle-jumping.

Lunch/ Recess 1

Math: Today, students practiced counting the value of coins, as well as drawing coins to represent a certain amount of money. Students did a great job practicing for their Math Test that they are writing tomorrow.

Unit of Inquiry: Today, students created pictures to predict what they think our class plants will look like when they grow. Students used lots of colours, and knowledge from our Down at the Farm unit to draw the different parts of a plant.

Taking Action

Action is a very significant aspect of the IB learning process. In the PYP Program, students will engage in 6 Unit of Inquiries (UOI) throughout the school year, with each unit being approximately 6 weeks long. During each UOI, 3 students from the class will be assigned as the “Action Stars”, which means that they are encouraged to use what has been learned and apply it to the “real world.” The purpose of this initiative is to help further knowledge about what has been learned within the classroom. Example: If we are learning about recycling, students might go home and tell you that they want to implement a recycling program with you at home, or they may do something simple like telling you that something you were throwing in the garbage may be recycled. Students who are not assigned this role for the current UOI being taught are still encouraged to show ACTION! Action comes in many forms; it might be something small to something very large, but as long as the children understand the concepts, action is important no matter the size!
