Day 60

Good evening,

Calendar: Today’s calendar was led by Krish. Great job Krish!

Phonics: Today, the students reviewed the Long “E/e” and Short “E/e” sounds, actions and songs. Then Izyan, Veda, Zane, and Ronan presented their Show and Share to the class. Thank you for bringing in an item with your assigned sound!

French: Please see Mlle. Jessica’s blog for more information.

Journals: Today, students completed a journal entry about an activity their family does on the weekend. Students drew a picture, and wrote a sentence to describe the activity.

Lunch/ Recess 1

Math: Students summarized their learning from the data management unit.

Book Fair: Students participated in some activities leading up to the Book Fair. They were guessing how many objects were in the jar.

Christmas Concert: Students had their first rehearsal in the auditorium. They are practicing their song, as well as how to enter and exit the stage.

Year Ahead Day: December 5, 2017

SJA is excited to announce that Year Ahead Day is happening again this year! All SJA PYP students will be participating in this exciting event on Tuesday, December 5th.Year Ahead Day is a fun and interactive day for the students at SJA to spend a day in the class of the grade level ahead of them For example, SK students will spend their day as Grade 1 students, and Grade 6 students will spend their day as Grade 7 students. This is a great way for the students at SJA to get a glimpse into their future life at SJA! Students can get to know the teachers, see their future classroom, and take part in activities they will be participating in next year. On Tuesday, our class will be in
Mr. Foster's Grade One Classroom.

Taking Action

Action is a very significant aspect of the IB learning process. In the PYP Program, students will engage in 6 Unit of Inquiries (UOI) throughout the school year, with each unit being approximately 6 weeks long. During each UOI, 3 students from the class will be assigned as the “Action Stars”, which means that they are encouraged to use what has been learned and apply it to the “real world.” The purpose of this initiative is to help further knowledge about what has been learned within the classroom. Example: If we are learning about recycling, students might go home and tell you that they want to implement a recycling program with you at home, or they may do something simple like telling you that something you were throwing in the garbage may be recycled. Students who are not assigned this role for the current UOI being taught are still encouraged to show ACTION! Action comes in many forms; it might be something small to something very large, but as long as the children understand the concepts, action is important no matter the size!
